Beginning in 1898 GE manufactured 14" fan models to compliment the 10" models and later the 12" and 16" models. The last year for which a 14" pancake was manufactured was in 1901 and the fan pictured above represents that model.
Seemingly manufactured in lower volume, the 14" pancake can be an elusive fan to find. This one showed up out of the blue at an auction and I had the good fortunate of being able to purchase it for a reasonable price. Some astute observers may notice that the fan actually as a 12" blade and cage (the latter being from a 1900 model) upon it. This is true and these parts will be replaced with the appropriate parts at a later date. The dead give-away to a 14" fan is the non-ornate "knuckle" on the stick of the fan as well as the very wide motor, both of which can be seen below:
Have you ever seen a 14" GE Pancake? If so what do you think of it? I don't own many rare fans so it was a treat to have found this one. Look forward to learning more about these fans from our valued readers.
